Lip filling is any procedure that allows you to achieve fuller, richer or more shapely lips. Over time, the amount of elastin, collagen and hyaluronic acid in our lips decreases. There may be also need to enrich the lips or to correct asymmetrical lips, curls, wrinkles at younger age. The hyaluronic acid filler is applied to the lips with a thin needle. The result of the lip filling is immediately visible, and the final result is will be detected after approx. 2 weeks. The effect of the treatment can last up to 1 year.
For lip filling, we recommend a naturally occurring, absorbable substance, such as hyaluronic acid, which has an effect of 6-12 months, depending on the individual. Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance what is found in the human body and is a hydrophilic substance, so it binds to the moisture in our body and during its decomposition the molecules bind even more water, so that after multiple uses the same volume can be achieved using less hyaluronic acid.
There are 2 forms of lip filling, one is contouring and the other is volume replacement. Contouring is used for those who want to emphasize the shape of their lips, possibly change their shape, and volume replacement for those who want richer lips. Of course, these 2 techniques can be combined and used together.
We do not use silicone injections at our center as they are considered as a risky procedure and are not FDA certified. Silicone fillers can migrate through the body, causing clumps and bumps. In 2017, the FDA issued a warning against the cosmetic use of injectable silicone.
Benefits of Hyaluronic Acid Lip Filling
Before lip filling
Avoid alcohol, aspirin, certain dietary supplements (high doses of vitamin E, ginkgo biloba, and garlic) and blood thinners for a week or two before treatment to minimize bruising. You can use black nightingale or arnica cream to reduce pain and swelling.
About the process
You must first attend a consultation. You will discuss with your doctor which procedure is recommended depending on what effect you want to achieve. Finally, you discuss how much it will all cost.
This type of procedure is performed in a doctor’s office with local anesthetic. They numb your lips and then inject the filler with a thin needle. In most cases, it is filled directly into the lip line and then massaged into the lips. The procedure is painless, you may only feel a slight sting on the place of the injection.
In patients who first go for lip fillings, some doctors choose to fill only a portion of the desired amount in the lips and then recall the patient a few days later and inject the remaining filler as well. Some fillers, such as Juvederm, attract water from the cells so that the lips look bigger in the first 48 hours. You will see the end result in a few days and then you can decide if you want more fillers.
How much material is needed?
There is no exact answer to this, as it depends on a lot of things. Before each lip filling there is a medical consultation, where you can discuss in person with your doctor the desired result, the course of treatment, taking into account the anatomy of your lips characteristics, aesthetics, facial proportions and possible asymmetry.
Then the most optimal hyaluronic acid and filling technique are selected. Experience shows that for the best results for the first time we usually don’t use more than 1ml of filler. If it is needed to achieve the desired effect, we usually suggest a next date where we will continue the fillings.
What results are expected and how long does the desired effect last?
Lip filling before and after
Russian lips
Russian lips, is currently one of the most popular treatments in the world of medical aesthetics. With the help of the Russian lips technique, a contoured heart-shaped lip – similar to that of matryoshka dolls from Russian culture – can be achieved, emphasizing the middle part, hence the name of the technique. The peculiarity of the “Russian lips” is that it does not saturate but raises the upper lips, the cupped arches can be emphasized with it, with a really attractive and sexy end result. Hyaluronic acid is injected outward from the inside of the lips into the upper layers of the lips, not to the muscle, so that the lips rise and open slightly. Thanks to the treatment, less material is needed than with the traditional method, and the result is more lasting, as hyaluronic acid does not get into the muscle, so it is not absorbed that quickly due to muscle movement.
This aesthetic procedure is recommended for ladies who want a special, attractive and rich lip that is different from their usual lip shape.
