Does this sound familiar?

Not just extra pounds are the issue

Obesity isn't an aesthetic issue, and it isn't laziness. It's a real metabolic problem whose underlying causes we need to understand in order to treat it properly.

Even in two patients with the same body weight, completely different causes can underlie the condition. If any of this sounds familiar, it's worth seeing a specialist:

  • Dieting without results
You've been through countless diets, yet the results don't last — or the weight comes right back.
  • Fatigue, low energy
You wake up exhausted even in the morning, and your sleep and wellbeing are declining.
  • Stubborn belly fat
The visceral fat around your waist won't budge — even though it's the most dangerous type.
  • Worsening lab results
Rising blood sugar, cholesterol, or blood pressure signal that something's wrong underneath.

“The first step is a thorough evaluation.” The same body weight can stem from completely different causes in each patient.
Why it's dangerous

Obesity keeps the body in a constant inflammatory state

Obesity is essentially an ongoing, chronic inflammatory state in the body that predisposes it to numerous comorbidities. It affects not just one, but several organ systems at once.

Cardiovascular system

It more often leads to high blood pressure, arrhythmia, atherosclerosis, and an increased risk of circulatory problems, even a heart attack.

Metabolism

The first stage is insulin resistance, which can develop into type 2 diabetes, and fatty liver disease becomes more likely as well.

Hormone balance

Fat tissue is an endocrine organ: it produces leptin, adiponectin, resistin, and converts testosterone into estrogen.

Further risks

It can be linked to joint wear, PCOS, infertility, osteoporosis, and even depression.

The picture in Hungary
60–70%

According to 2019 data, nearly 60% of Hungarian women and as many as 70–77% of men are overweight or obese — putting Hungary at the top in Europe.

Obesity is a chronic, progressive disease: without treatment, it typically worsens. The good news is that a significant share of the risk factors is modifiable.

What's behind it?

We're not all the same

Every patient with obesity has different underlying causes. The goal of the evaluation is to pinpoint exactly which factors matter most for you.

Non-modifiable

  • Age — metabolism slows, physical activity decreases
  • Genetic predisposition — a combination of several gene variants
  • Socioeconomic background, financial situation

Modifiable

  • Ultra-processed foods, high calorie intake
  • Sedentary lifestyle, excessive screen time
  • Poor sleep quality — disrupts hormone production
  • Chronic stress and autonomic dysregulation

Internal medicine / hormonal causes

  • Underactive thyroid
  • Disrupted cortisol production
  • Hormonal changes during menopause
  • Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)
  • Depression and other psychiatric conditions
How the consultation works

How does it work?

A thorough, four-step process, at the end of which you receive not a prescription, but an understandable, personalized plan.

01
Interview · medical history

Detailed medical history

We learn about your history, past illnesses, family predisposition, motivations, and lifestyle. The goal is the full picture — not just body weight.

02
BMI · waist circumference · body composition

Physical examination

Measurement of BMI and waist circumference, along with an impedance-based body composition analysis that distinguishes between fat and muscle tissue.

03
Lab evaluation · genetics if needed

Evaluation of labs and test results

We review your lab results and interpret them together. If needed, genetic and epigenetic testing can also support the recommendations.

04
Lifestyle · medication if needed

Personalized therapy plan

The foundation is lifestyle therapy: diet, exercise, sleep hygiene, and stress management. When indicated, modern metabolism-supporting options may also come into play.

What we measure and why

An accurate picture is worth more than the scale

Body weight alone tells you little. That's why we work with several complementary tools — to see what's actually happening in your body.

BMI
A simple screening index based on height and weight — but it doesn't distinguish between fat and muscle.
Waist circumference
Abdominal, visceral fat is far more dangerous metabolically and cardiovascularly than “pear-shaped” obesity.
Body composition
Impedance measurement that distinguishes fat from muscle tissue — so real change can be tracked.
Labs + genetics
Metabolic assessment from lab work, supplemented — if needed — with genetic and epigenetic testing.
Laborcsövek vérmintával – az anyagcsere felméréséhez
Data-driven approach Decisions are backed by measurable, traceable data.

Frequently asked questions

What's worth knowing about the consultation itself

Do I need a referral?
No. You can book an appointment for the internal medicine consultation without a referral.
How long does a session take?
The consultation lasts 30 minutes, during which the detailed medical history, examination, and joint review of any results you bring take place.
What should I bring?
Your previous test results, a list of medications you're currently taking, and, if available, a recent lab result. The more complete the picture, the more accurate the plan.
Will I get medication at the consultation?
The foundation is always lifestyle therapy. When indicated, however, there are already modern preparations that support satiety and metabolism and can help with weight loss — these may also be discussed.
Is there a “miracle cure”?
No. At present, there's no medication that delivers fast, lasting results without your motivation and participation. A good, personalized plan, however, makes the path much easier.
What happens after the consultation?
You'll receive a personalized plan you can introduce gradually, and we'll also discuss the ideal timing for follow-up and re-measurement — so you can see exactly how you're progressing.
